ATTO's Executive Luncheon 2025

22 October 2025

The Association of Tractor & Trailers Operators (ATTO) hosted a high-level Executive Business Luncheon this week at Villa Corinthia, bringing ATTO’s Associate Partners and Board Members together for this event.

The event was attended by ATTO Chairman Mr Joseph Bugeja and members of the Board, with Hon. Dr Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, and Hon. Dr Chris Bonett, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, serving as Patrons.

A key focus of the luncheon was the crucial role of international land transport in supporting Malta’s logistics and trade ecosystem. Stakeholders emphasised that trailer operators form a vital bridge between Malta and mainland Europe, ensuring the continuous flow of goods and sustaining national supply chains.

Chairman Mr Bugeja highlighted the need for stronger European coordination and policy frameworks that enable Maltese trailer operators to remain competitive while adapting to sustainability and digitalisation goals.

The luncheon served as a strong reaffirmation of ATTO’s commitment to fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, with the shared goal of ensuring that Malta’s transport strategies continue to evolve in harmony. This united approach is essential for reinforcing the nation’s role as a modern, efficiently connected hub at the heart of the Mediterranean.

In recent months, the rapid increase in the weekly number of incoming and outgoing trailers has presented new challenges for the Maltese Government — particularly the need to expand infrastructure, enhance facilities, and streamline administrative processes to better support the industry’s growing demands. Nevertheless, thanks to ongoing, transparent communication and a spirit of partnership between stakeholders, significant progress has already been achieved. These positive developments bode well for the continued growth and future success of the sector.
