ATTO Tilqa’ r-Rowl ta’ Malta fil-Kumitat Dwar it-Trasport ta’ l-UE

02 August 2024

ATTO, l-Assoċjazzjoni Maltija ta’ l-Operaturi tat-Trailers laqgħet il-fatt li Malta issa se jkollha rwol dirett fuq il-Kumitat dwar it-Trasport fi ħdan il-Kummissjoni
Ewropea.

“Il-fatt li Malta issa se jkollha lill-MEP Dr Daniel Attard fuq il-Kumitat dwar it-Trasport ta’ l- Unjoni Ewropa huwa pass importanti fid-direzzjoni t-tajba għaliex dan għandu jiggarantixxi lil-interessi speċifiċi tal-pajjiżi gżejjer bħal Malta jkunu fuq quddiem fl-aġenda ta’ l-UE,” qal Joseph Bugeja, Chairman ta’ ATTO.

ATTO dan l-aħħar kellha laqgħa kordjali ma’ l-MEPs Maltin Alex Agius Saliba, Daniel Attard u Thomas Bajada li matulha, iż-żewġ naħat qablu li se jżommu djalogu bejniethom sabiex ikun żgurat li l-interessi ekonomiċi ta’ Malta jibqgħu imħarsa sabiex is-servizzi internazzjonali bit-trailers li jo􀆯ru l-membri ta’ ATTO jibqgħu imħarsa u jkomplu jissaħħu.

Waqt din il-laqgħa, ATTO spjegat kif id-Direttiva ETS li tobbliga lill-kumpaniji ta’ tbaħħir biex jagħmlu tajjeb għall-emissjonijiet, mhiex kollha kemm hi ġusta fir-rigward ta’ pajjiżi gżejjer bħal Malta minħabba li niddependu b’mod sħiħ fuq it-trasport bil-baħar għal dak kollu li għandna bżonn

Waqt il-laqgħa, Joseph Bugeja ppreżenta lit-tliet MPEs dokument mressaq lill-Parlament Ewropew minn rappreżentanti tal-operaturi tat-trasport u t-trasport tal-merkanzija f’Malta, l-Irlanda u Ċipru għal reviżjoni tad-Direttiva dwar it-Trasport Magħqud tal-UE li qed ikollha impatt speċifiku fuq il-loġistika u l-provvista tat-tlett pajjiżi.

“Minkejja li Malta, Ċipru u l-Irlanda huma tliet stati gżejjer membri tal-Unjoni Ewropea, ilpolitika fil-livell tal-UE mhiex qed tikkunsidra l-kundizzjonijiet speċifiċi ta’ dawn il-pajjiżi. Lopinjoni tagħna hija li konnessjonijiet bejn nazzjonijiet gżejjer u l-UE kontinentali għandhom awtomatikament jitqiesu bħala trasport kombinat,” qal is-Sur Bugeja.

Il-position paper, li tfasslet minn ATTO, l-Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) u l-Kamra tal-Kummerċ u l-Industrija ta’ Ċipru qed tħeġġeġ lill-Parlament Ewropew biex jirrevedi lliġijiet li hemm bħalissa dwar it-trasport bit-triq minħabba l-kompetizzjoni inġusta li hemm bejn dawn il-pajjiżi gżejjer u l-kumplament tal-kontinent Ewropew

"Il-kwistjonijiet attwali li qed ti􀆯aċċja l-industrija tagħna jagħmlu din id-dokument wieħed definittiv għal ATTO u għall-imsieħba tagħna f'Ċipru u fl-Irlanda u jippermettu lill-ATTO tieħu tmexxija f'din il-kwistjoni kruċjali," temm jgħid Joseph Bugeja.

ATTO hija l-assoċjazzjoni li tirrappreżenta lill-operaturi tal-loġistika Maltin li jo􀆯ru trasport bit-triq bejn Malta u l-kumplament ta’ l-Ewropa. Il-membri tagħha jirrappreżentaw 80% talimportaturi u esportaturi f’Malta fost industriji di􀆯erenti fosthom l-avjazzjoni, ħwejjeġ, ikel, materja prima, farmaċewtika u ħafna prodotti oħra.
